Hip, hip hooray it is time for #BookstoreOfTheWeek!
Is there a bookstore more recognisable thanDaunt Books?
The moment you glimpse someone with a Daunt Books tote bag you KNOW they are a book lover & an independent bookstore devotee at that!
An original Edwardian bookshop with long oak galleries and graceful skylights situated in Marylebone High Street, London (they also have shops in Chelsea, Holland Park, Hampstead, Belsize Park and Cheapside!), Daunt Books is nothing less than sophisticated elegant book browsing.
The older section of the Marlyebone shop was completed in 1912. It is allegedly the first custom build bookshop in the world. The shop was bought by former banker James Daunt and renamed in 1990. We are big fans of the founder of Daunt Books, James Daunt, who proclaimed in the Guardian ‘I don’t recognise that books are dead’. What the world needs are more people like James Daunt & MORE BOOKSTORES LIKE DAUNT BOOKS!
Daunt Books is known for its customer service and knowledgeable staff. Plus, each branch organises spectacular talks by authors, with discussions. Previous events include talks by Alexander McCall Smith, Hilary Mantel, and Michael Palin!
It’s refined list of titles, with a focus of travel, draws a passionate clientele & each store is well worth a visit, but we recommend heading to the Marlyebone location for a classic Daunt experience.
A sophisticated, grown-up store, Daunt Books, we tip our (top) hats to you as our #BookstoreOfTheWeek!
